The Fortis 5K Walk is a family-friendly event. Prior to COVID-19, as you may already know, we would meet on the second Saturday in September at Chinquacousy Park in the City of Brampton for a fun filled day walking, running and biking for an hour or two. Then, we normally enjoyed a delicious barbeque with lots of fellowship, good music, and great vibes – all in support of our beloved alma mater, Kingston College, Jamaica (“KC”). Over the years, we have also had several local educational institutions and alma mater associations like ours join us in fellowship and fundraising for their own institutions.

Due to the current pandemic, and in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are forced to go virtual again this year. Like most educational institutions today, COVID-19 has severely impacted how KC operates, teaches and cares for its students, and the cost of doing so in a safe and healthy manner has increased and created an even greater challenge. KC and other alma maters like ours are today in greater need of your support.

To that end, we are required to double our efforts to raise even more well needed funds this year – not just for normal school related activities, but also to implement the necessary safeguards in light of COVID-19, such as, electronic devices and internet service to facilitate virtual classrooms and reconfiguring classrooms with plexiglass cubicles and PPE to accommodate in-person classes.

Over the years, proceeds from this event have funded the school’s nutrition programs, student dental care program and post-secondary scholarships, just to name a few.

Our ask this year is that you:

    1. Make your own route and walk, run, ride – whatever form of physical activity you feel like doing between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021; AND
    2. Post a video or photo of yourself to your social media page while on your route and tag us in it OR send us a short (30) second video or photo at secretary@kcobatoronto.com, which we will post to our social media accounts, so we can come together and share our experiences with the greater community in support of this most worthy cause.

Don’t forget to donate what you can – every “little bit” counts and as the old Jamaican proverb goes “one-one coco full basket.” Tax receipts will be issued for donations in the amount of $25.00 or more. For your convenience, you can donate on-line through our website using the secured payment services of PayPal. You can also send donations via e-transfer to our Treasurer, Errol Whittle, at treasurer@kcobatoronto.com.

Thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you next year at our in-person Walk.

Your donation is truly appreciated. Stay Safe.
